| | | Is this photo restoration possible? I would just liketo say hello to everyone, I have been lurking in the background for a while, & have been reading the tutorials.
Would anyone know if it is possible to restore this photo & if so what would be the best way of going about it??
There is a bigger image here. http://s149.photobucket.com/albums/s...ent=655458.jpg
Many thanks in advance

| | | Re: Is it possible? Hey Spence, nice picture. I concentrated on bringing the color back. I did all of that with curves. I sharpened (too much, I think. I wanted to see the flowers, sue me). with the focus magic plugin. If you spent some time you could fix the circle too. did you notice that Grandma is in that chair?
Oh and normaly I wouldn't take out the white border but it shrunk the file size and this was large, I had to drop quality to 37% to post.
Welcome aboard. |

I am really surprised at how much detail there is!
"did you notice that Grandma is in that chair?" What do you mean?
Any chance of a more precise walk through?
(If I'm not being to cheeky!!)
Once again, thank you.
Spence

| | | Re: Is it possible? Hey Spence, It looks to me as though there is a woman in the chair on the right wearing a flowered top. If she wasn't grandma when the picture was taken she probably is by now . Of course it could just be a dust throw I see.
I'm happy to go into detail on how I did mine. I'm going to dinner now, I'll try to post later this evening. |

| | | Re: Is it possible? believe it or not. But photos have a lot of imformation in them. color and detail wise. Getting a realy good scan of your image is your first step in getting better results. Your image is savable but i would recomend before doing all the work, to have the image scanned in higher resolution and at a best color depth the scanner can give. it is amazing the detail difforence a scanner can make, I have a epson scanner that cost me 300 bucks, but the scan is not even close to what i get when i have my local print shop scan it with there $1000 scanner. Plus they only charge me $5.00 per image. so its a great deal to get great quality. better quality at the start means a better finished image. |

Selected the green channel and copied it out to a layer
Used levels to lighten the outer circle to match the inner circle
Sharpened
Levels adjusted the whole image
Sharpened again
Dragged a copy of the original to the top and set blending mode to color to add the colour back
More Layers to paint on colour
Sharpened again

Here is my go. Haven't done any smoothing or sharpening of the image, and I cut out most of the background .... I don't think there is a granny on the chair, looks like a cushion to me. Would have been handy to know the colours that the kids were wearing if that is possible. |
