removing red and blue patches

Hi All,

I am having a photo (attached below) of my parents that is having red and blue pathes all over the photo. I tried to remove them by creating adjustment layes in photshop and playing with curves/hue/saturation/color balance
but I could not gain much. So can any one pls. let me know how to go about it ?

Thanks
Ardhendu

Re: removing red and blue patches

Ardhendu, I'm not a retoucher, but can tell you that fixing a double color cast is really difficult. Your best bet here may be to convert it to black and white then do some dodge and burn to balance out the luminacity.

Here's a very quick (2 minute job).

Re: removing red and blue patches

it isnt that hard. look up any of the retouching books from Katrin Eismann (Adobe Photoshop Restoration & Retouching (3rd Edition) (Voices That Matter) (Paperback))
They give step by step for almost this exact problem. I would explain it, but i am at work, and have to get off here quickly, sorry. it involves correcting the bad channels by replacing the worst channel with a channel which provides more image info, the correcting using gradient masking, and color correction.
good luck, seems like fun

Re: removing red and blue patches

I had similar problem a few months ago. The thread was titled "can this photo be restored" dated 3- 01-07.

Difficult is an understatement . I spent hours on the image and help from this forum. I finally ended up hand painting it.

The photo is attached for comparison purposes. One tough sucker.

Re: removing red and blue patches

your photo is realy easy to restore, you have a lot of color still there and details. It will take you time to do. the simple way to to this is take the photo in sections. Like to the mans shirt first. use levals and color corections and also the burn and dodge tools. then move on the pants then face then arms, hands, feel, backdrop, so on, so on, so on. jsut do it in sections. Remember that is its mostly yellow, its missing blues and reds. so color corect that way.
