I think this one is a long shot...

Hello everyone I'm totally new here. I have a picture of my two cousins (I'm guessing its from the 60's or 70's) that I have been trying to fix for ever. I know only basic photoshop and that has gotten me by in the past but hard as I try I can't be satisfied with this one. If any one can offer any guidance as to what I can do differently, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'll attach a link to the original and my best effort.

Again thanks,
Amy

Re: I think this one is a long shot...

Both pictures show a paper texture which can be removed by using an FFT filter which is free. Search this site for FFT and a tutorial for it use. On the attached picture below I used only the FFT filter and Focus Magic.

Re: I think this one is a long shot...

thanks so much I tried the FFT but maybe I don't know how to use it; what I came up with was a lot different. I think with what you did I can have a little more to work with, adding a few more layers and such. I know I just need more practice though. Hey thanks again.

Re: I think this one is a long shot...

I used the FFT action found below on yours because it was much better than mine and I got tired and didn't want to continue then ran yours through Noiseware:

and discussed thoroughly here:
