Skin retouch help.

Attached is an image. What would be the best way to make the skin look smooth without the goose bumps etc. What technique or process would you use in photoshop?

skin retouch help

Sorry,

I had repost in the wrong area of forum. What is the best way to clear goose bumps on skin like the provided image. I would like a smooth transition of skin. I have used gaussian blur but it still looks like it's been blurred especially with the edging. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Skin retouch help.

Hi xxxmen,

Create two layer.

on the 1st layer run dust/scratches filter.
then on the 2nd layer run high pass filter with Soft Light Mode.

you can also use Surface blur or median filter on the 1st layer instead of dust/scratches.

There are a lot of method for smoothen the skin but it works best for smooth transistion.

Re: Skin retouch help.

Is this 2nd layer with high pass and soft light beneath the dust and scratch layer or above it?

Re: Skin retouch help.

above the dust and scratches layer this brings back detail. I used the surface blur filter when I use to do this method myself. Now a days I basically use the high pass filter inverted g.blurred and set to linear light hide all and paint on the smoothing with white around 40-50% opacity.

Re: Skin retouch help.

Took me less than a minute to tune Neat Image by hand to get this. Not sure it would work as well on a higher resolution image. But with slightly different settings than those I used, possibly.

Re: Skin retouch help.

Neat Image is a Third Part Plugin. It is very good plugin.

There is not need to go everytime with the third party plugins. Photoshop has all the inbuilt feature for all kind of enhancement. You need to learn something from lynda.com. Join it for 1 month. It has wonderful video tutorials for basic and advance retouching.

... Yep... choosing the right Forum can be confusing ....

Having to search among multiple Threads on the same subject, just to be able to view/download the picture in question or see what has been suggested/done already, can also be confusing and a bit annoying too ... The risk is not getting response.

If you think you have posted in the wrong Forum and would like to change that, instead of re posting the same Thread somewhere else, ask any of the Mods to move it for you ...

I'm going to merge your Threads here...

Re: skin retouch help

Correcting such fine details creating subtle differences in order to keep the image looking as natural as possible is sure best done with higher resolution...

Here are 3 different ways to get close to the result you wish to achieve...

They may be too soft for you, but working on Adjustment Layers you can always adjust Opacity and/or Fill

Attachment 1 .. Dust&Scratches + Noise
Attachment 2 .. Median Filter + Noise
Attachment 3 .. Neat Image + Noise

Where I added Noise, you can always go for the High Pass Filter as explained above (you can read Ro's excellent Tutorial on this..)

Neat Image is A third party plug-in that can be downloaded free from here ... On the Neat Image Site, you can also find excellent examples and tips and tricks on 'how to' ...

D&B would work too & you could do as many passes as you wish, until you happy with the result.
