Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

I have a few pictures that I took of my cats in Nightshot Plus mode and I don't know how to fix it to make the colors look more natural/real. It's a greenish blue color now. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly helped. I have Corel Photoshop X2. Thanks.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

OK. I uploaded a pic of my cat, AJ. The pic just looks weird or not right. And it's taken from my sony camcorder in Nightshot Plus mode.
BTW, I don't have a flash for the camcorder yet. Which is why I used the Nightshot Plus mode on it.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Hi Heidi, in Photoshop I duplicated the layer and ran Blur-Average on it and picked the color of that layer with the eyedropper. On the duplicate I ran an adjustment layer of Foto Filter, choose color and clicked on the foreground color, than on the dialup box you choose LAB and invert the A and B channel colors (like 30 would become -30 and vice versa) this removed the blue cast... Hope this helps

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Thanks but the pic still looks weird to me. Hmmm...let me upload a pic of what she looks like then you can get an idea of how dark and odd the pic is I'm talking about. Well she is more white than this pic shows. I should fix that. lol. But the second pic of her is much better. You can see the white fur better.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Started with levels adjustment channel by channel. Then made two color-mode layers filled with the complement of the two contaminating shades, each having a hide-all layer mask. Then painted on the masks with a low-opacity soft white brush to get the neutral tones back to neutral (also adjusted opacity on those layers to fine-tune the correction. Sort of like dodge and burn, except with color casts. The cyan cast could use more work - but this should give you the idea.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Sooo many ways to do this.. I realize the sheets probably are not Cyan and the Kitty's eyes may be the wrong color but nobody knows but us and this is to just give you an idea anyway. All you have to do is change the colors!

selected cat (Deselected eyes)
desaturated cat
painted nose pinkish
lightened eyes darkened pupils

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Curves and H/S.
The cat looked like it has 2 different color casts.
Second thought - this retouch is bad.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Hi there

I know the cats colors but not the background fabric.

There are few colors in the photos so it may be better to remove color and add it back in on color layers or gradient maps.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Well I like Butch's the best so far but she has yellow eyes which I can very easily fix on my photoshop as it has an animal eye thing on there already. I am very new to photoshop and have no idea what the terms are you're talking about. lol. Thanks for your help.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Hi there

Duplicate your background

With your photo open in Photoshop press ..Image>Adjustments>Desaturate

All color will removed from your photo.

At the top of your pallet open a blank layer..In the layer option menu where it says "Normal" click on the drop box and near the bottom choose "Color"

Now with the color picker choose a color you want to add back.... say the yellow eye color... you can have open another picture and use the eye dropper to sample the correct eye color then switch back to your working photo.

Paint in the eye color

Now sample a color for the nose...and do the same.

Keep sampling good color and painting over the gray scale of your working photo.

Use the same layer set to color mode or open new layers if you want to keep the colors separate.

In your photo there are only about 4 or 5 colors in the whole photo

It works great and is easy...give it a try

The above technique is a good way to go when your original has multible color castes and has relatively few colors.

When you remove the original color the castes are just reduced to shades of gray.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

Hi. I don't see the desaturate on there. Remember I have Corel Paint Shop Pro X2. So it must be different than what you use. However, thanks for your help. If I have any questions I'll be sure to ask. lol!
BTW, how do you dupliacte a background?? I'm very new to this and need detailed and step by step instructions please. May want to pm or email me.

Re: Nightshot Plus mode pictures...

I think the cast is just reflection from the sheet--and maybe the pinkish pillows are creating the second cast. I desaturated the colors in the cat and then add variation adjustment with a little bit of yellow and a little bit of red. Then I did the eyes more yellow---is it close?

BTW, you said paint it in by hand with the mouse? I suck so bad at that. Another words I'm very bad at art..always have been...is there an easier and non-artistic way to do this. I don't have a steady hand at all when it comes to painting, coloring, drawing, etc. Thanks.
