Stuck in a tutorial

I don't know whether or not people are allowed to ask for help when stuck in outside tutorials, so please let me know if I'm out of order....

Anyway, I'm stuck!

Basically I've reached the bottom of this page here - just above the last example picture....

It says to create a clipping path between two layers - done that okay.

Then it says "now link the two layers" and shows an illustration of a link icon beside the visible/invisible eye icon in the layers palette.

but that icon space is missing in my layers palette - which currently looks like the attached image. That column is missing...

I would be very grateful for help. The person who wrote the tutorial says she is away at the moment, so help from here would be hugely appreciated.

I use Photoshop CS2

Click, then shift-click the layers you want to link.
Click link icon on bottom of layers palette.

I couldn't find anything in the help/index thing for CS2 for linking layers, so that was really helpful.

(In fact upon reading further in the tutorial I realised there were different instructions for people with CS2 - the writer was using an earlier version of ps. That might well explain why the layers palette in the example looked a bit different.)

Fingers crossed that I will now do the rest okay.....

Layer linking is an older feature, and the interface was changed when layer grouping (putting layers into layer sets/groups) became the norm - but they still kept it, and it still comes in useful.
