Serious Fabric help needed

Hey Guys, my first post so I hope it goes well.

Trying my hand at freelance retouching and all is going pretty well. I'm not a novice but not an expert either. Working on this project and everything is going fine except the client is now asking me to smooth out the fabric on this one shot (circled areas).

So far, I've tried a high-pass (overlay) layer and using the clone/healing brushes on the one below but it's only kind of working. I've also tried the dodge/burn on a separate layer technique as well but it never seems quite right. I think it's because there is so much contrast on these big fold areas that smoothing such a problem.

Can someone help me out? I've been fiddling with this image for some hours and really could use an experts advice right now.

Im very far from an expert but here I tried gaussian blur then added layer mask and painted the creases out....not sure if this is any good to you but hope it helps

I used D&B, some healing & stamp tools.

guys, thanks so much.
yeah looks like both methods worked pretty well.
I'm going to work with the curves and D&B I think.
That seems to work pretty well in most situations.
Ok I'll throw up the final when I get done!

Hey Guys, Thanks for the advice and samples. I'm working on a high res image so I decided to use several different methods. Still not 100% perfect but I will improve with the next shots.
