Editing text on a gif file new member here so apologies if I have posted this topic in the wrong area. My problem is that I have purchased a web template (html) to build my website. Whilst most of the template is editable in Dreamweaver, some of the areas are not, typically the buttons which are .gif files with text on them. I want to change the text to suit my own requirements, but cannot. I have opened them in Photoshop but cannot select the text. I have tried changing to RGB colour (noted in a previous post) but that didn't help either. If I cannot change the text areas then the complete template will be unusable as some of the buttons are unsuitable for my project. Any ideas anyone? Thanks - John

Re: Editing text on a gif file You can only edit the entire image. In this example I have copied the letters 'm' and 'y' and moved them to the area where the word 'art' was. That word was first covered with some of the brown color, which was copied from the left. If you do not have the needed letters available, you can find that font or something similar and create an entirely new .gif image. Juergen

Re: Editing text on a gif file It is a standard practice for web template vendors to include the master PSD files used to create the template artwork: buttons, bullets, headers etc. You should have received a PSD file for the buttons where one or more layers has the text used which makes it trivial for you create and/or modify buttons. I would contact the vendor and ask for it.

Re: Editing text on a gif file the Gif's you presented are single image.. no text to select as it has been rasterized and combined into a single layer image.. treat it as any other one layer image... Convert to RGB.. select the brightest color of the text as foreground color.. select darkest part of background as background color.. select the area of the image you want to change.. fill with background color (or if there is a pattern use the clone tool or make a pattern to get rid of the unwanted text)... make changes with foreground color.. rasterize and/or flatten image.. convert back to GIF.. check image to see if it looks OK.. save as GIF
