Making a black border around a picture?

I have a regular picture and I would like to put a black border around it and some lettering as seen in this example. Can anyone walk me through how to do this? I know I can enlarge the canvas size to create a border around any picture but getting that border black is where I get stuck, or is there another way?

Also does anyone know where or how I can get a copy right symbol to insert into a picture?

Hiya oiram,
not sure if this is what you want but, if you enlarge canvas size there is an option at the bottom of the pallet that says canvas extention color, just change it to black or whatever colour you want.

Re: Making a black border around a picture?

Hi oriam,
For making a black border, you can just use the crop tool. First set your background color to black and then select the entire image with the crop tool. Hold down the Alt key (Option on Mac) and drag the crop at either the sides or corner outside your photo. The alt key just makes your drag the same on both sides. Just hit return, and you've got a black border to whatever proportion you want. Takes about 10 seconds.
