help with a double chin Hey, this is a picture of my parents and I at an awards ceremony for my work. I'm new to photoshop and have been trying to fix the double chin I have (in the middle), but haven't had much luck. I wondered if anyone could help me with that, and possibly some slimming down of the face? Thanks! I have a much higher quality version if anyone would be willing to play with that for me also =)

Re: help with a double chin just a quick fix try at this mandi for the chin only as you asked , i cloned the hair line at either side and moved it in and a quick levels and saturation fix no doubt the old hands can do much better lol.

Re: help with a double chin The trick to retouching this image is to maintain proportions for the entire body. The double chin is not objectionable in my opinion (I do understand your concern..) and I've retouched the image by using a Liquify brush to narrow the cheek to chin curve, the hair and the right arm. Changing proportions can be distracting, even to a casual eye. The skill is in retouching without the viewer being aware of it.

Re: help with a double chin Here's another variation with some additional slimming to the entire body. Notice that because the hips and legs are in front of parts of both parents that will tolerate considerable distortion without being noticed. It's a simple matter to use a Liquify brush to gently stroke the outer curves of the hips and legs inward and still keep the entire body in proportion

Re: help with a double chin Hello I spent some time examing the image and to be honest it does not look that bad from the image that is supplied. If you would like to send it to me I would be happy to work on it for you. I have a lot of experience with PS since I use to work for Adobe years ago. I will send you my PM so you can include a larger copy of the photo for me. The higher the res the easier it is to fix the minor things like this.

Re: help with a double chin Hi Mandi, Cute shot. I agree with the others about the dd chin. Relax, you'll have years to grow a really good one. Anyway, I thought the reflection on the glasses was more disturbing and Mom needed a mini-lift too. Seeing the smiles on your and Mom's faces caused me to do a teeny little upturn in Dad's face. And I "pressed" your pants a bit. I had the iron on anyway. Everything done was with a very light hand. The most helpful tool in photoshop (for ME) is the clone tool and that's what I used most on your pic.

Re: help with a double chin Here's my little attempt. I've probably cheated in some way, but.... I took cut and paste areas of the lower left and right jaws separately so they sat on separate layers. Rotated them so the under-chin shadow came close in alignment with the chin and then masked away all the unwanted areas. I also had to add a little more hair under the lower right jaw-line to hide my marquee edge from my original rotation. http://www.deniseowen.co.uk/neillo/smaller_neillo.jpg

Re: help with a double chin I realize this is a retouching forum....But, Don't be so hard on your self! You are a Beutiful woman with a fantastic smile{cute to boot} and nobody else see's the flaws you do! I cropped tight 5x7 because I liked how the line of the flags led to the trophy and gave a sort of symetry to the photo and then I removed the distracting seam on the wall. And I'm a guy what can I say....I would rather have wrinkles than have to iron. Smile, Be proud...Don't be so hard on your self.

Re: help with a double chin I agree with Neumanns (like his crop, too). All the attempts at removing double chin, skillful as they may be, have ended up looking faked. The double chin goes with the body, and the whole package is just fine.
