G'day people,

I asked for your help once before and was given excellent advice and was shown what could be done.....I need your help again!

How would I correct the issues on the attached picture?

Re: Technique help...

dasinc,
This would probably receive more replies in the restoration forum, but we'll see how it goes here.

There is not much underlying detail in the white speckles. Hence, cloning is about the only tool to do the trick. Work with very small areas, working your way from the edge along good detail, inward toward the area lacking detail.

In those areas where there is a bit of underlying detail, you can try changing the clone blend mode from normal to color, and occasionally luminosity. Unfortunately, it is a very slow process.

In the areas to the lower right, where it looks hazy, try copying just part of the image to a new layer and play with blend modes, curve adjustment layers, etc. Use the layer mask to taper the effect to only those areas you want.

Re: Technique help...

Do you know what the white splotches are? It's just that I notice that the whole image sample including the white artifacts is quite blurred/out of focus- seems odd to me if the white bits are actually surface damage, as if the actual scan itself is out of focus not the original print.
