Trying to select sky through branches.

Hi,

I'm new to Photoshop Essentials and I am having difficulty selecting sky between branches of trees. I can do it quite easily with Photoshop by first of all selecting the top half of the image with the rectangle tool and then using color range select with the picker set to 3 by 3 average. I can adjust what is selected by the fuzziness control and anything that gets selected which I don't want I can deselect with Alt + lasoo tool. I can't find anything similar in PSE 8.

Can anyone advise me?

Many thanks

Re: Trying to select sky through branches.

The 3x3 sample picker isn't accurated because it samples the result of the mix of the colors in a radius of 3x3 pixels (just a tip).

If going to channels is allowed by PSE, select the blue one, duplicate it and contrast it to get a nice mask.

Re: Trying to select sky through branches.

Swampy has a nice tutorial on fixing a blown out sky. She selects the sky area and uses the color range but uses white as the "color"

I think you meant Photoshop Elements

You might have much better luck finding a solution by looking or asking your question in this forum.. Photoshop Elements Help

This thread might help some.. luminance masking with ps elements?
