A friend wants this photo restored,and I'm having trouble with the orange splotches,way too time intensive with healing and cloning and I'm not too knowledgeable with separating the color channels,any help would be greatly appreciated. Bill

You could use a channel mixer in "Luminosity" mode, with the check box "Monochromatic" turned on and the red channel accentuated to 100% while the other channels make 0% of the mix.
That should give you an image with splotches, that are less annoying in the luminosity, so after that you can use a new layer on "Color" mode and paint the surrounding color over the orange.

The black channel in CMYK could work as well, but is even brighter.

Cat1204, that looks very nice :-)
Although I'm not sure, whether the orange in the background is really background or simply stain.
I'm also not sure about her skin color as it also looks a little orange on some spots.

Other than that: love it!
