Any tips on how to improve colors?

Hey guys, this is my first post here - exciiiiting!

Ok, so here's my problem: I am deeply unhappy with the colors I create at retouching. Often I don't want to manipulate the hair-tones, so I end up keeping a natural looking colors. Has anyone else experienced this - to feel, that you are overdoing it, while it really isnt?

Has anyone tips on how to develop a better sense of colors in Photoshop? And especially how to achieve the said kind of look?
