Newbie needs help with fixing closed eye

Hi everyone,

I have 4 young children and as you can imagine, it is hard to get each of them looking and smiling at the same tme. I use Picasa for the basics with red eye and warming up sking tones, cropping, etc. but am wondering if there is a way I can copy my daughters open eyes from one picture and use them on a picture of her with them closed?
Any help would be so much appreciated. Need to get this picture of them ready so they can be printed and sent to the grandparents for Valentine's Day!
Thanks so, so much!

I don't know what Picasa is capable of, but it's certainly possible in Photoshop or in any of several other editing programs.

I did a quick job on it in Photoshop CS2. I adjusted the levels, too, while I was at it, pulled some yellow out of the skin tones, and sharpened.

Cute kids, by the way.

That is great, thank you. Is it by chance, easy to do? I'd like to figure it out so I can get a high resolution copy. I printed the one you so nicely fixed up, but it's very grainy.
If you have a minute to explain, that would be fantastic.

Thank you again.

Re: Newbie needs help with fixing closed eye

Given the similarities between the two images in this case, yes it's pretty easy - if, as I said, you have the right software, and if you know what you're doing. You need software that supports layers; it might be possible without this ability but it's hard to imagine how. I know nothing about Picasa so don't know if it would fill the bill here. Photoshop does, for sure, but costs a bundle. Photoshop Elements, which I've used maybe twice, would probably do the job and costs a lot less - <$100 (Elements users - feel free to chime in here). Corel Paint Shop Pro would work, too, and is also mucho cheaper than PS. There's going to be some learning to be done with any of these tools; you're not going to pop the install CD in your computer and be switching people's eyes around ten minutes later. And you are of course right - the image you posted is way too small and low-res to be good for anything except to show that it can be done.
Hope this helps.

Thank you! I will take a look into each of these! I had to keep re-sizing my photo to the allowable size for this site, which is why it was so small.
I appreciate all of your help!

You could take the whole of the head with the open eyes and replace the one with the closed eyes. That way you have a bit more leeway when it comes to getting their position exactly right.
