Need help removing dark circles

Hello Everyone, I'm brand new here. I'm a complete beginner at this. I have a picture I like but the shadow under one eye makes it look like I have a shiner. I'm wondering if anyone can help with this.

Seeing as you are a complete beginner, what photo editing software do you use?

This is a site for learning, and we will gladly help you learn to do it yourself. There is also a "Classifieds" forum if you're willing to pay one of our members to work on your photo.

This is a quick sample of some minor work you can accomplish with good editing software like GIMP (free) or Photoshop (trial available) and practice cubed

(After clicking thumbnail wait a couple seconds for the GIF to change)

I just added a new layer on top, filled with 50% gray and used the dodge tool to remove the dark shadows

Thank you so much to unimatrix001 & 0lBaldy. I don't have any program. I was searching online for a program but didn't have any idea what to choose. I know PhotoShop is very expensive and I didn't know if Gimp was a trusted program so I didn't want to download it w/o further knowledge.

I think I will download Gimp. I really love of course the retouched versions. I will also visit the classified sections b/c I don't think this is something I'll end up doing on a regular basis.

I used Curves layers set to luminosity to adjust the shadows.

Hi Cupcake, are you able to note what things you did? That one looks so like having a professional doing photos, like all those extras you pay for when getting senior pics or school pics or family pics done.
I am new to this, and thinking of maybe getting Photoshop....like seeing some of the options of things DONE.
