Need help (beginner)

Hello guys, pardon me for my english.

I'm a freelance photographer based in Singapore. Recently I've been doing alot of product photography and this month I did one cosmetic product shoot and the client request for high end commercial product retouching, maybe not hi end, something that is similar to the commercial retouching standard.
I know nuts about retouching, I only know colour correction and clipping path, adjusting curve and little bit of dodge of burn.

It would be good if seniors here give me a heads up on what i should do and what kind of tutorial should i look for to achieve those kind of retouching, Attached is one of the product i need to retouch. Do have a look, your input is much appreciated.

Regards,
Jason

Welcome to RTP cherryberrypie

Never tried any of this "product retouching" before, just out of curiosity I thought I'd try yours, not convinced I got it anywhere near good though ;o)

On a serious note, take a look at Bert Monroy on Pixel Perfect for tutorials, he seems to know what he's doing, maybe.

Re: Need help (beginner)

cherryberrypie,

All I did was to clone and heal the bottle to remove any spots etc, then I selected the bottle with the pen tool, then added a white to transparent reflective gradient, set that layer to "soft light" and lowered the opacity till it looked good. Added a blank layer above that and with a soft brush at 100% opacity clicked once on the shoulder of the bottle and set that layer to "soft light".....See attachment, done.

Hope this helps....John

Re: Need help (beginner)

I simply duplicated the layer, flipped it and lowered the opacity. I used D&B and some sharpening on the bottle itself.
