Fix image with eyes shot

Hello,
I'm really new to photo editing, and this site. I downloaded Gimp and I am trying to fix an image with eyes shot. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with this photos? I have done a couple of tutorials, but I am not able to paste the layers right and the photo ends up looking very strange. I have plenty of photos of the baby with happier looks and open eyes; however, I am concerned about the difference in the lighting. I thought of maybe using the image with sunglasses or others with similar lighting. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I'm not sure Gimp can do what you need, I'm sure photoshop could but also those images are very small to really rely on a good edit imo

Well I have the full size of the images, I just had to make them smaller in order to post them.
