| Re: I can not get the shadow off my face To upload your pic when you are in the entry mode, or edit mode, click on the Advanced button and scroll down the p[age till you see a button called "Manage Attachments". Click it, browse to find the image you want to upload. Please be sure to resize your image in advance to <100KB max size limit (200KB for Patron members), or host your image somewhere else on the internet and post a link to it. An attachment is preferred. Regards, Murray |

| Re: I can not get the shadow off my face The Photobucket image is tiny. There appear to be shadows on both the man and the woman but image is tooo small to see the detail. What software do you have? The shadows do not look to dark so you should be able to easily brighten them with a Shadow / Highlight adjustment or just a curve, or worst case a Dodge layer. | Re: I can not get the shadow off my face Hi Kat (St Louis?) Very cute picture of the family Murray always has the best advice. It really does make a difference depending on the software that you have. One thing to keep in mind is that if the end result that you want is a print hanging on the wall, you could always find a retouching service you trust to do the work. No need to put the frustration/learning curve in between you and the final result unless that is what you want right now. Attached at the bottom is an enlarged example of what I did side by side with the original. This was done in Photoshop (using some of the techniques Murray mentioned and some other techniques) - Masked area to change using Quick Select tool (tolerance set to 0) - Added Curves Adjustment Layer and increased brightness - Used the Refine Mask tool to adjust edges of the mask - Painted on mask where refine mask did not do the job - Did some Dodge and Burn to improve the match where needed - Where colors were off some, just sampled on the daylight side of your face and then painted with Blend mode of Color (changes color yet preserves the luminosity) There are many approaches in Photoshop to do the same job. A more advanced retoucher may have a simpler approach than I described. I did not spend a lot of time on it and note that getting something close with a very small compressed image is easier than a high quality high resolution image yet the steps are similar. Hope this is useful. Oct30090-SWF.jpg |

We are Army, so I hope to find a class on post. With my husband gone a lot its hard to get into it. I think it is goingto take some time to get this, but I am going to keep at it. Thanks for your help, I will take any that I can get!! Katherine What made you ask STL?? |

| Re: I can not get the shadow off my face Just a long shot based on what I believed was a similar screen name that I had seen before of a person who had posted pictures elsewhere. Like I said, a real long shot. |

| Re: I can not get the shadow off my face Hi Katherine No, that does not open. Best way I have found is to either use the Save for Web command (not sure that is on PS7) or resample image so that it is less than 800px on a side and then use the JPG compression level that gets the image below 100K. Then use the paper clip icon in the posting window header which will let you browse and then upload your image to ReTouch Pro. Once uploaded, go back to the paperclip and click on the uploaded image name and it will paste into your post and then display as a thumbnail. Hope that was not too confusing. |

| Re: I can not get the shadow off my face Ok, I can't do any of that. I think I will need to take a basic computer class also. All I know how to do is email a pic. |

| Re: I can not get the shadow off my face Katherine, Welcome to RetouchPRO Hope you enjoy your stay here and make lots of friends. Poke around, have fun! If you use Photoshop 7 you can post fairly large pictures which are under 100k using the 'save for web' function in Photoshop as described here: Size, Quality and/or Format your Attached Images.. (Click here) How to attach Files/Images to your Posts or Threads: (Click here) If you want to post a larger resolution that is over 100K then you can host your image elsewhere and attach a link in the thread (as you did here...except, link to the highest resolution.. or the largest size you can upload), but also please attach an under 100K version so the thread remains useful in the future, regardless of external links. Other Hosts if you do not have your own site: ImageVenue.com (3Meg max, free) pixentral.com (2Meg max, free) Photobucket.com (1 Meg max free, 5 Meg PRO) mediafire.com (100 Meg per file, free) dropbox.com/tour (2GIG, free) post a link in the thread to the site that is hosting the larger image. (link to the highest resolution.. or the largest size you can upload) A beginning start might be to copy the background layer and change the new layers mode to screen... hold down the Alt key and click on the mask icon @ the bottom of the layers Menu (Square with a circle in it) .. This should give you a big black box beside the screen layer.. enlarge the image so just the Lady's face is showing and paint with a small white soft brush over the shadow you want brightened.. paint with black paint to correct any goofs.. after each stroke if it seems to dark or bright you can always use the Edit>Fade tool to fine tune the brush stroke... if there are areas that are not quite right then you might use the healing brush tool.... take your time and practice cubed... you can do it!... To darken the children I just used the key combination Shft+Ctrl+Alt+E to copy all the layers onto a new layer.. copied the new layer and changed the mode to Multiply, held down the Alt key and click on the mask icon @ the bottom of the layers Menu.... painted with white on what I wanted darkened.. After you click on the thumbnail below.. click on the picture that pops up for a larger view... then click on that new picture to see an even larger picture if a larger version is available ~~Before~~ ~~After~~ Last edited by 0lBaldy; 11-30-2011 at 06:34 PM.
