Help with shadows

So glad I found this site- love all the amazing pics and suggestions!!

So I thought I had the perfect plan for some pics of my boys. Unfortunately, after I uploaded them to my pc I realized I was totally our of my element. All 3 boys have dark shadows on them, especially their faces. Can someone help me out with a good program and step by step instructions on how to fix them? Or I am willing to pay a fee if someone wants to take a shot at fixing them. Thanks in advance for the help!!!!

I would open the pics in a camera raw & do the adjustments there, then blend outcome with original using a gradient filled mask.
