problem removing texture

I have tried several techniques on this image but I am still not pleased with it especially on the man's suit. Who ever thought printing photos on textured paper was a good idea? I still have PS CS2. I would really appreciate all suggestions.

Re: problem removing texture

Hi jd3wolfe,

This is my first post but I have some experience with restorations and with removing those pesky textures from old photo paper.

Have you tried photographing the image using cross polarization? It's a technique where you polarize the light source and use a polarize on the lens too. It is the best technique I have found for removing texture. Here is a link to somebody using this technique for macro photography:

It can be difficult and expensive to get the rig together and find polarizing film. But another method I've had some success with is over-scanning. This is where you scan the image at a resolution that is much higher than what you need for the print and then downsizing the image inside of Photoshop. Sometimes the downsizing will help remove the texture.

Sorry I only have tips for the capture process - maybe someone else can chime in with a different solution.
