Here's another interpretation based on the John Buchmann inspired Photoshop action, which can be downloaded from this thread.

mpskin... here's the low down on how I apply my sketch effect.

Here are the steps I used to achieve my sketch effect.

The first thing I did was to duplicate the original layer
Layer, Duplicate Layer.

Then I I went to select and chose all. Then I went to Image Adjust and then Invert.

Then I changed the color mode to grayscale. Image Mode, Grayscale without flattening.

Then I changed the Layers Mode to Color Dodge on the current layer.

Then I went to filter Blur Gaussian Blur. Then I adjust the blur until I had the effect I wanted.

After this... I like to use the paintbrush set to white and brush some the areas I want to clean up.

Then flatten the image.

Duplicate the new flattened image and apply effects to this. I like using the filter Sketch and graphic pen. Applying it to the duplicated layer. After this, I fade it to my liking. Again, flattening when finished. You may need to use the paintbrush set to white to clean up areas around the face.

Finally - if you like the sepia look go to image adjust hue and saturation. Check colorize and adjust the sliders to your liking.

Hope this helps.

Lisa
