Exclamation Photoshop problem

OK this is one I can't figure out. I've used Photoshop since version 6 came out and I'm pretty fluent with CS now. I'm having a problem that is bugging the heck out of me and I know it a one click solution but I can't figure it out.

OK.... Here is what I usally do to a picture...

First remove any blemishes on the face....which doesn't require a new layer.

Do a color adjustment to the whole picture .....which doean't require a new layer.

Next I do the glamour look which DOES require a new layer. But once I finsh the guaisn blur, USM and start to erase the eyes, nostils and mouth I run into the problem.....If I've done any cloning, healing, or patcht tool work on the lips....the eraser uncovers the work I just did. It's like my eraser turned into a history eraser and I can't turn it off. It never did this before and I'm going crazy trying to figure it out. Is there something I've turned on to cause this? I'm not crazy...I know it never did this before.

Plese, please help me on this one

Dan,

It's very useful for all the rest of us to be reminded of how easy it is to accidentally "click something" that screws up our usually obedient Photoshop (or other editing program).

Thanks for the "tip", and thanks for giving due credit to your wife for discovering the solution.

Yeah CJ

I've been bragging about how much I've taught her and then she shows me up

Either way...I'm glad because it was messing with my work flow.
