Need an application to do image red-lining...

I have customers that don't know anything about computers or digital images. I need a simple app or maybe even a web module that will allow a customer to open an image and allow them to make notes or simple drawings on it on a seperate layer or file as notes for me.

Engineers take blueprints and then mark them up and have the junior architects make the changes. I need something like this but for images. Something that won't allow the orginal image to be damaged in the process.

Thanx, Dave.

Photoshop is the only image app I know of that comes with a dedicated notes feature (it even supports audio notes). Many image apps support layers that could be used, but there'd be a learning curve for your clients. There is space for comments in the EXIF information for an image file, but it has to be viewed separately.

There are browser plugins that let you make notes on any image viewable from the browser. Also, MS Word can display images and let you put notes on them, but both of these would only work for lowrez samples.

Personally, I like paper and notes drawn on printouts. That way there's no argument months down the line.

I know Adobe Acrobat Pro has a "comments" feature, but I don't know if it allows "drawing" over an image. You might want to look into it though.

I've not used either of these, but...

Slick! LT (a cut-down version of the main Slick! 8.0 product) apparently supports redlining -- it's designed primarily for AutoCAD images but is supposed to support other formats including TIF, JPG and PSD. It costs $89 but you can download an evaluation version for free so could see if it does what you need.

Myriad would do the job but costs $250.
