Removing photo from glass?

I was just given a photo that was under water. The picture itself isn't to bad. Some mold and water damage but not impossible to fix. Here is the problem. The picture is stuck to the glass that was in the frame. If I try to remove the picture it will rip.

Is there a "safe" way to remove the photo from the glass? I actually was thinking of placing it under water again and then removing it from the glass. Has anyone done this before?

The last step in the photo developing process is a water rinse. I was told in darkroom class ( 100 years ago) that if you get water spots on a print, just soak the whole thing in water. I would think that would work in this case. Maybe dry it between blotter paper with small weight ot keep it flat.
