Rounding rectangular corners in Photoshop

I did a net search on this because I figured it was so simple it would be embarrassing to ask.... but after reading four page explanations I have decided it is less than simple. First of all did anyone at Adobe figure out that this might be a useful feature and include it in Photoshop CS? If not, is there a quick and satifactory method to accomplish this action?

Just use the Rounded Rectangular tool. It is nested in with other shapes beside the Pen Tool.

Great idea, Dave.

If one wanted to make a selection based on the shape by alt + clicking the shape layer, then it would be easy to create a rounded-edge layer based on the selection -- something that could be recorded in an action for application on a single image or through batch processing.

Very cool.

Where is that nested?

Are you saying it should be in with elipitcal and rectangle tools? I don't have a rounded rectangle tool that I see on my tools palette...

You should find it in the box to the right of the pen tool.

...or press the U key. That selects the tool.

The shape you want probably won't be the one that's visible. Click the little triangle at the bottom/right of the tool and you'll see it among the menu choices.

You can adjust the radius with a setting in the tool bar. Then drag to define the shape. Ctrl + click on the layer name to create the selection based on the shape.
