Question Brush Tool Loses Foreground Color

I've been working on a JPG file in Photoshop SC changing a full color photograph of three orchids. The project is to change the full color photo into a single color graphic for reproduction on a coffee mug. I have been able to finish the entire project but now I'm having problems with the brush tool. I've used the brush tool to change all the pixels into either white or the selected CMKY color (a printable magenta). Now when I want to do a bit of selective retouching and I use the eyedropper tool to select either the white or magenta color then switch to the brush tool (set at 1 pixel with 100% opacity) the color I get is bright green (when magenta is selected) or black (when white is selected). This occurs on the PJG and the PSD versions of the file. What's happened? Have I inadvertently turned some feature on? Thanks.

Unless i am misunderstanding what you are explaining, it sounds like you mask it set as green as the colour, and when you select the colour you want it masks it for you, if green is your mask colour, that may explain it ? But again, i might be misunderstanding you problem.

Maybe a few screen shots would help resolve your problem.

Thanks for the reply. Remember I'm a newby and this is my 1st project. If a mask is set, I didn't intentionally set one. How do I check to see if a mask is set and remove it if it is?
