PART 2
As I was driving to the post office I thought about my question and that further explanation might help someone clarify the technique for me.
I am scanning in a small photo. My scanner , an Epson Perfection 1660 Photo ,can scan at different res. As far as I can tell from the specs on the Epson web site I can scan up to 1600 dpi without the scanner interpolating.
CCD Res =1600dpi
BUT does it make sense for me to scan a small photo at 1600? Will I really get more pix than scanning it at 600?
What I would like to do is scan it at a higher res then use
PS resize to bring it to either 300 or 400 dpi and go with whatever size that gives me. THen i will add canvas to bring the photo to a standard size. Please tell me if I am on the right track.
But if the printers do just as good a job at 250 Res then resizing would give me a larger print.
Thanks for any help.
