Anyone out there run a Fuji Pictrography?

I just purchased a Pictrography 4000 and I was just wanting to see if anyone else had one. I'm so excited to start playing with it, but alas, I need to rearrange my office to make room first. Right now it is residing in my family room! Rather funny looking in there.

Up until a few years ago we used a 3000 in a higher-ed lab setting. Beautiful prints, without the nastiness of a darkroom! We stopped due to cost and because it is SCSI-based...

Remember to keep the water fresh and the hoses clean!

Yeah, I heard about the water

Do you know how well the paper keeps? The gentleman that I bought it from gave me almost a years worth, but it has been in storage for 2 years. I figure the cost for running for running will be about $2-$3 per 8x10, but the initial consumables cost is staggering.

I'm very excited about it. I'm rearranging my studio/office now. The awesome thing is that he gave me the Mac that was running the printer. SCSI already installed. It's a 2nd gen G4, but that is more than enough to be running as a print server.

Also, do you have any contacts for supplies/parts in the event I need to do some ordering?

Thanks,

Sarah

Re: Anyone out there run a Fuji Pictrography?

That printer, while making very nice detailed prints is a nightmare. The donor and paper is so far from having any quality control it's ridiculous. I've used them and other models a lot in the past and nearly pulled out all my hair. To get the best out of it, only use distilled water in it and calibrate it 5 times a day. Don't even try to get a neutral black and white out of it. It's fast and makes pretty prints, but the color is whack. Even the Fuji guy stated that it's a bit crazy when it comes to getting color correct prints. Works great on lower contrast images. Good luck. The materials may bu$t you.
