Images for TV.

I'm going to be retouching some old images for a friend. They'll be featured in a documentary.

I know that images meant for print can benefit from specific blackpoint and whitepoint settings in Photoshop. What I need to know is what about images that are going to appear on TV. Are there specific settings that I'd need to use in Photoshop to make sure I get the proper tonal range across the image?

Re: Images for TV.

Generally, you want the luminance to be in the range of 16 to 232 for NTSC video. Also, the color gamut for NTSC is different. Avoid oversaturated colors as they will flicker and bleed.

There is a standard NTSC (also a PAL) profile included with Photoshop that you can use to convert your image and/or check for out of gamut.

There is also an NTSC filter included in Photoshop (found under the Filters > Video menu) that will clip the values into the appropriate range.
