pattern shows up on print only

Can a moire pattern show up on a print only? I have a large scan of a big painting that looks fine even at 100%. I am having it reproduced as a giclee print on canvas, and the finished print has a moire pattern, even only at an 8 x 10" size. The guy printing it said the problem was in the scan. I printed the image on my home computer at 8 x 10" and got no pattern. Any ideas? I haven't had this problem with any other prints.

It's probably not in the scan. Moire is caused by two patterns intersecting (like the fine regular detail of a fabric pattern and the grid pattern of a camera CCD). It's possible you're getting moire because of a pattern in the image interfering with the pattern of the canvas. If that's the case, he should be able to print it just fine on the exact same printer if loaded with paper instead of canvas.

Thanks. The weird thing is, he has done proofs before on the canvas that have been ok. Can you think of anything (like the method of resizing the image) that might contribute to this new pattern?

moire

Have you printed it in 100% or have you scaled it down then you place it in etc. indesign?

...a rotation could cause moire too...

ok. It could be that. The best might be to scan it again in the size you want to print in. If you still got the problem then, post it. You can also try to print some of the one youve got, to see if its works.

hope the problem is solved!
