Scott Kelby

Does anyone have any of Scott Kelby's books? Any recommendations?

I have "PhotoShop 6 Photo-Retouching Secrets" and I highly recommend it.

I have most of his books and quite a few of his tapes. All I feel are worth while. Keep in mind most of his books are info from Photosop User magazine so there is quite a lot of duplication.

Still to me they were a great investment.

I've got all three books (Killer Tips, Restoration, Down & Dirty Trx); I thought Killer Tips and Restoration were the better of the three from a retouch and general use perspective.

D&D Trx (to me) had a lot of type maniulation / texture gadgets / web-related do-dahs for which I have no personal use.

Definitely checkout the used market via half.com or amazon.com "zshops" vs. full-price.

Though I like video learning (given this is a visual medium), I thought the Kelby videos were/are incredibly over priced and not very well done. Fortunately for me I bought / watched and quickly resold them via eBay. Had I purchased at full price, I would have felt substantially ripped off.

Videos I can highly recommend: Any of Ben Willmore's offerings are excellent; I hear he's got two that have been (or are about to be) released on advanced layer techniques and blend modes.

Hi all! If you are looking for videos I would also recommed the Master Series by Ben Willmore. I have "Understanding Resolution, Understanding Curves and Understanding Channels" They are not cheap but very well done. I look at these type of things as an investment not an expense. With that outlook they have more then paid for themselves. (Unlike my stocks which have cost me money)

Danny, you must have been adding to your post as I was typing. I didn't see Ben Willmore's name in the original post. I should have worked harder in typing class.

Hi Bob...

Yeah, I just got back from the store . Upon rereading my last post I noticed I sorta left out that important detail!

I'm looking forward to seeing Ben's newest. I hear they're quite good, but have been unable to find so far. They're not advertised on his site yet.

Are you a NAPP member? (I'm not.) Maybe there.

Danny, I haven't seen anything on his new tapes but I will keep an eye out. Also, I retrack my statement about his tapes being expensive. They are 90 mn tapes and are only $29 each. Thats cheap!!!

I'm not looking for tapes-yet. If I ever get through the books then I'll try some tapes. Thanks.

Bob I totally understand your statement about stocks. I guess I really haven't lost anything until I sell.
