notice that i accepted the compliment now, i'll tell you that some of those folks over there at FF are sheer geniuses. me, i'm a decent hack, but some of those folks are simply amazing. i've just about quit using other plugins, well, except for art rage and painter essentials and...

Well now that I have upgraded my Mac OS to 10.6.1 FF is no longer working. Not even the beta. Crud-up!

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

thanks, jordan (sorry i missed you at first )

gunner, have you tried posting on the forums or using the contact form? the FF folks are pretty good about responding and fixing things. i think someone else had a similar trouble with 10.6.1... not real sure, but i think it had something to do with permissions. check the mac forum on the FF forums.

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

Got it fixed. I had D/L'd a FreePak and after installing it is when my FF stopped working. Of course it happened only a week to ten days after installing Mac OS 10.6.

I had forgotten that I had a back-up copy in my 1 TB hard drive and after copying that over it works just fine.

Now that you mention it, it does look like it's a reflection in water.

Smile Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

To cool for words. Abstract eh?

Now that I have your attention maybe you all could point me in the right direction if I can come up with the right words to describe what I am after.

I have been floundering around trying to search out tutorials on how to add dimension to images using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac. I have noticed a few herein from time to time but at the tome I didn't think it was time for me to take the time to learn it. Do you all have time for this? Guess that is about the extent of my ability to use the word time in a paragraph. <<<smile>>>

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

Hee are some links with several types that more or less illustrate what I am trying to learn. I guess it's Bas Relief but transparent instead of opaque grey or whatever. Never learned how to use layers for this.

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

George (aka gunner )

you have really answered your own question
duplicate layer
bas relief ( or emboss etc)
change blendmode to either overlay ,soft light or occasionally multiply will work
you might need to fiddle with the colour afterwards
or another way is texture mapping here is Swampy's tut

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

There are some fantastic edits here! Really gorgeous....

My not-very-good attempt is just fiddling - an orton blur, dry brush, fake smudge action and texturising. I think that was it....

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

gunner,

thanks, and yes, abstract/cubist/whoknowswhatthehellthatis?

for high relief, or bas relief, or just about any depth type style, try using one of the 'surface' filters in filter forge, then go under the lighting tab and crank up the 'height' slider. it will depend on the filter and how it's constructed, but many of the forge filters can accomplish a simulated greater depth.

Another go at the yellow flower using Impressionist for the paint effect.

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

back in the very early days of filter forge, a couple of us stumbled on how to make some glass effect filters. i made some glass bricks and other stuff and my friend, steve, made some really colorful glass ones. after a long while, i went and revisited all that and made a very short filter as a sort of example/tutorial for making glass in filter forge. the filter is "Glass - Shower 1" and i did the flower in this.

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

That is definitely a very real-like glass effect, nice. If it where painted on flat clear glass it would maybe look real until you touched it.

Re: Just a Yellow Texas flower.

Ever heard of Metal Photo? There is one company that advertises in one of my Photo mags that I subscribe to that will do Metal Photo in color or B/W. However it is not a new process by any means. I did metal photo when I ran the photo lab at the U.S. Air Force Academy in the early 70's.
