Unhappy ArtMaster Pro

I know that this has been discussed elsewhere in this site, but the search cannot find any reference to it. So I am starting one with the application in the title so that we can find it easier.

I havce many copies of ArtMaster Pro but not one of them can locate my serial number and I have been at a loss as to be able to find one anywhere on the great world wide web. I found some for sale but they were for the PC and I use a Mac. I couldn't even find an unlegal hack. Not thqat I would use such a thing. But, I cannot buy another one as fo2pix.com is no more.

What's a person to do? Or H. E. L. P.

Re: ArtMaster Pro

I installed an eval. version of AMP a couple years ago. Seems to me it required a Photoshop-like activation upon entry of SN. If so, I wonder if having a SN w/o the means to complete the online activation [nobody to connect to] would get you any farther along?

Might be the activation was for PC folks, so hopefully not an issue on Mac.

Sorry 'bout pouring gas on your fire if this is another obstacle in the road.

===============

I just surfed eBay: Nothing at the moment or recent past.

Might be worth it to check there on occasion. In the past I've found some really obscure (and useful) software at rock bottom prices fishing there.

Some of this stuff is available on the UK version of amazon, but they won't ship to the US.

Yes, Amazon UK will ship to other countries, in Europe and most of the rest of that hemisphere it seems like. Is there anything else we can say about it.

Re: ArtMaster Pro

I just rechecked and AmazonUK no longer carries the item.

I did however find a serial number for my Buzz application. Couldn't pay for it as they are no longer in business so i don't think it's terribly wrong to use it.

Re: ArtMaster Pro

I'm sure there are other members with Art Master Pro that have serial numbers. If the company no longer exists why can't you just share one of theirs?

I'm pretty sure AMP required "activation" (connection to a server "somewhere") to enable the program (just like Photoshop). If true a serial # alone would not be enough.

FWIW IMO it was a crappy pgm anyway; sold mine on eBay. Zero regrets.

Well, I hate that. Art Master Pro is a great program. I use it a lot. Guess when I get my new computer I had better transfer the working program over to the new hard drive, huh? Thanks for the info. I suggest the use of Akvis Sketch for pretty much the same things as Art Master Pro does.

I like Akvis Sketch a lot...

re: Guess when I get my new computer I had better transfer the working program over to the new hard drive, huh?

I dunno if just copying the AMP files from your old computer to a new computer will work, if that's what you mean. Assuming you're a Windows user, installation of just about any program involves changes to the Registry, something that would not occur with a file copy operation. Windows is pretty fussy about the Registry being right. Different ballgame for Mac folks (not as messy).

In any event I hope it works out for you.

I think I know my answer...but
I have AMP on my computer now(windowsXP). Probably can't transfer when I eventually have to buy a new computer and probably run vista. correct?

I'd say "Iffy at best," but unknown until someone actuallly confirms one way or the other.

Hurdles include:
a. Activation, if that is indeed required
b. If activation is possible or not needed, will AMP work under Vista?

When the time come, let us know for sure, would ya?

Why not try Topaz Simplify? It can do similar effects without the drama.

Got Simplify...but ArtMaster is a software all its own...I just wish I had the rest of the plugins before they went out of business.

Re: ArtMaster Pro

I found my copy of Art Master Pro this evening. It has two numbers that must be put in to make it work. I have these numbers for anyone who wants to try to use them. I don't think we would be doing anything wrong since the company no longer exists. Write a post if you want to try them.

Re: ArtMaster Pro

I don't think I have anything else, just AMP. I have Image Composer with the Microsoft Impressionist filter, but it is a plug in that comes with just that program. The AMP registration numbers are input in a funky way in order for the program to work.

Re: ArtMaster Pro

i have both versions of Art Master, Pro and non-pro. It seems that it will not open in Mac OS 10.5 so that is the end of that one for me.

However Topaz Simplify works very well, as plugsnpixels and skydog have suggested.

Unhappy Re: ArtMaster Pro

Guess I'm late to the party on this post. I have AMP and tried loading it on a new Vista machine a month or so ago. After trying to "Install as admin" and checking "XP compatible" to overcome the 1722 error it still didn't work.
Since then I installed a virtual XP machine on the Vista computer and have now gotten it to install but when I enter my code it says that the number has been used too many times. AAARRRHHH!!! that's because I used them all up trying to install to Vista!!!!!!
Anyway, I was able to install and get it to run on the virtual xp machine by NOT entering the code and running it as a trial. I tested it and everything worked OK but it only allows 10 sessions! I spent lots of $ on this and use it daily. I'm so frustrated that the program's there and will work...yet I can't use it. Tried to contact Don McRae through an old gallery page contact but with no luck.....I understand that life must move on and he wouldn't have a life answering the flood of emails he probably still gets from the AMP/Buzz days. I JUST WANT MY ARTMASTERPRO BACK!!!!

BTW, great tip on TOPAZ. I ordered several filters and love them. I have used them in the artwork phase..... but especially like them in the image prep stage. Topaz has been a huge time saver with Denoise and Clean up.
BUT, there are still sketching, shading and highlighting features that I want to use AMP for.

If anyone knows how to overcome the limit on the # of installs allowed or if there are any new ideas out there on this subject I'd love to hear 'em.

Thanks,
Deck

Re: ArtMaster Pro

To Deck: I came across this workaround for Buzz, from the same company as AMP, which may work for you with AMP ... I have not tried it and cannot vouch for it ...

My background is many, many more years working in photography with Hasselblads etc. and film rather than computers and digital cameras so do not know whether or not the above is to be recommended or even safe to try. Others with more computer knowledge than I would be better to advise.

quoting from the workaround:

"there's a file in c:/windows subdirectory (you'll have to unhide everything in the directory) called buzzS1lic.dll -- delete it, and your demo use count will be reset. It will create a new dll file, which (I assume) you can delete again when you need to. If you have pro2 the dll will look like this buzzP2lic.dll"

Photography whether film or digital, computer or darkroom is simply magic and I wish you luck in finding a workaround.

Regards,
Jan

Re: ArtMaster Pro

Thanks for the info Jan.
I did try this as a backup plan but not sure if I got the correct dll file. The program stated, after one of the latest installs, that it was missing a dll file and since I couldn't find one while exploring the cd I had to go to an older computer where it was installed and copied it which is what finally allowed it to run. I have deleted and reinstalled to see if it would reset the count but it did not. It is possible that there is another dll file that might work but I haven't found it yet.
I would love to know if there is a way to remove these protections all together but not much hope. If I get to the 10th use I guess I'll just never close it! :^)

Thanks again for your reply.

Deck

Re: ArtMaster Pro

I have Retouch Pro v1 (updated to v1.2). This soft has nothing to do with softs like Topaz or other similar (which are indeed good)
I'm still learning to use this great tool, and I use it in combination with Photoshop. I like to do art work besides conventional image processing.
I'm willing to help with this, since this great tool is no longer available...pm

Hello everyone. Does anyone have the JAR (installation) file that came with Art Master Pro that allows the program to use TIFFs in addition to JPGs? Without this JAR file, I can only use JPGs.
