Polar I was looking for something different when i saw this photo and thought aaaah i'll have a go at that (obtained from http://gal.mvc.ru/ thanks neasa for link) then i realised it could be quite hard to do, with the colouring etc so does anybody else fancy a go? Go on it is easier than i first thought and think there could be some very interesting results and anything goes ! ! ! ! ! Palms my first attempt is a painting who knows what next ! ! !

Re: Polar What a cool (no pun intended) picture. If it's got a black nose and eyes, I'm a sucker (puppies, kitty cats, Labs, hounds... I just a sucker!). I know there are smudge experts here that will gasp in pain, but I find all that smudging with the smudge tool tedious. I want a smudged look, but not the pain so I took this into PS Liquify filter and smudged there. It just goes faster for me. So, smudged then a sharpen then I added a shaggy rug texture through the styles palette.

Gasp & Gasp , Tedious no, relaxing yes ( ok ok you have to be in the right frame of mind for smudging ) But i do like your express smudging ! ! ! very nice and the texture is super Palms |

Re: Polar LOL, Palms.. Express smudging... good description. I'm just impatient. I love the effects you get (and you are a master) smudging, and I adore Ro's beautiful AHB work, but working with a 1 pixel brush to achieve the results is out of my tolerance range. Besides, I've been bothered by RSD (repetitive stress syndrome) which is cousin to carpal tunnel and very fine detail work with the Wacom pen (which I refuse to give up) seems to agrivate it. Doing these "paintings" is just so addictive and I enjoy it so much, I try to find ways to achieve the look without too much repetive motion. Heed this old woman's warning and take breaks and exercise your arm, wrist, shoulder and elbow often.

Re: Polar I really like that Swampy. It's kind of like 'lint art' ... he just blends up into a nice warm fuzzy blanket... very nice effect. :-) Cheers, Sherry

Re: Polar Thank you Snuffy! :-) Fabric bear... nice, Steve. I only have one suggestion... I would mask out the effect in the dark area around his feet to give some depth and separation.

Re: Polar Swampy i wouldnt say master, still some way to go on that one and like you i havent the patience for a 1pxl brush ( hence why there is a long way to go ) Your advice is sound about moving your arm about regular, I do have a gel pad on my mouse mat that helps a lot, but i changed my desk a short while ago and that has caused me a few problem, I notice that i rest my wrist or elbow on the edge more so have to keep a eye on that. Sherry i know where to come when i want a good description you have that nailed And Steve your fabric bear is a great idea Palms

Re: Polar The smudge painting looks great with this one, maybe someday for me. Had trouble digging out something for Impressionist to bite into, but got a little going on the more pronounced lower section of the image.
