For $99, it looks like it could be a cost effective way to get started with Painter-like functionality.

When comparing the two it would be easy to be blown away by how many more brush styles Painter IX has, but many people I know use less than a dozen brushes (a core group of favorites). So, don't let the brush option difference be a showstopper.

Although I have not seen Essentials, don't hesitate to ask questions on features. I (or someone) will be glad to give an opinion on importance.

I have an email from Corel saying that Painter Essentials 3 is available for download for $69 until 11/30.05. Has anyone had any experience with this program?
