Poppy the Puppy

I took these this weekend while at my son's house, Poppy is a cross Lurcher/staff from a local rescue centre. And at the moment is not a very good model as she needs more training, getting all the leg in frame is a bit hard ! hope some one gets some pleasure out of them

Here is Poppy

I used Isabel's Pastel sketch action on Poppy after separating him/her from the background

Poppy is such a cutie -- too cute to resist! Did just a simple oversharpen-diffuse anisitropic layer, eliminated the chair arm, then added a Notepaper sketch layer and a Torn Edges layer to soften the effect. Eliminated the blue glow from her eyes, but left some of the reflection.

She's so cute that I'll have to work on the other image also!

Can't imagine her not being full of energy, so I added some sense of movement with an extruded layer and a zoom blur layer (layer masked to reduce effect on Poppy's face/body).

Exceptional job, Judy. Simply outstanding.

Which brushes did you do?

Do you use a pen/tablet?

Still haven't come up with a good way of creating tapestry/embroidary, but here is my submission anyway. I just with I had some bucks to fork out for this program.

interesting, lk. now that would be an interesting plugin/program... a needlepoint and embroidery application to an image. hmmm, let's see... edges, contours, some kind of adjustable crosshatch, patterns....interesting.

Very nice Ikroll, Had a quick nosey around about the emroidery plug ins etc lots of ways to do it stitch by stitch, but did find this little snippet which you may be able to adapt to use with your knowledge of plug ins etc

Thanks for the feedback folks.

Here's where I'm at now (and I'm now using Impressionist for the PS lovers out there; much more control). I'm really not ready to share the preset yet; it's really a process that involves both PS and GIMP (for bumpmapping) and a lot of sharpening. I've attached the crop (100k issue). Also did some vector simplication of the front end to make the rendering more zoned and not photographic (keeps the color count down too).

Change of mind.

I've attached all my presets which includes the thread preset. If any of you can get it better, then please do. I did change the jitter from 10 to 25, the the threads will be a little more random in the placement, but otherwise, it's the same (didn't like the placement of the original; have to see the complete rendering in order to know what I mean. Jitter helps, but it's still a little too white. Maybe a blend of the too would be better. Hmmm).

Just remember that the orientation setting requires a file called Original.bmp (all of my presets actually do). Just save the target image as original.bmp.

edit: I think I have it. Not going to upload just yet, but play with the orientation angle range (start and finish angles). Also try replace the brush with "cray5a".

edit: I finally am ready for primetime. Click here to see the details and download the Impressionist preset. I deleted the preset from this reply since it was a work in progress anyway.

Never surrender; never give up.

Told you all I would figure it out. I even figured out how to do single stitch (see attached). Have fun. If you have already downloaded the presets prior to seeing this message, then do so again (I updated them). Just click the link from my previous post to get them.

Good One

Brilliant Ikroll, You are very clever and persistent to have worked this out, I think the outcome is awesome. Dare i say i have impressionist but dont use it, I will now have to have a serious look at it. and might i add i like both the effects on Poppy

Glad you liked the effect. Impressionist has so much power at what it does that I will never really perfect all the nuances. It's a whole lot of fun figuring all the setting out though.

Techni-X simulation using Potrace; not the first time I used Potrace for this, and will probably not be the last.
