Here's my try - Painter and PS. Found the mosaic tool in Painter very tricky, since you are basically laying each tile. I think I'll try a regular filter, just to see the difference.
Love the variations so far.

Love your rendition also! So you (and Cat) lay each tile by hand to get those wonderful compositions following the contours of her face -- wonderful!
work!

Not having any fancy mosaic plugins, I stuck to PSP8.

Con and Amy, I wish both of you would talk a bit about how you got your results. They're both very interesting.

Catherine, PSP8 has a filter called Rough Leather, with 5 different presets. One of them does this neat effect, if you narrow the parameters a bit.

Oh, that's cool, Amy! I've got PSP9, and it's in there, too, but I had never played with it. That's why I love forums, I learn something every time I check in. I wonder if there are presets online for this filter............................

Hi Raniday,

Sorry for the lack of detail. I’ve been pushed for time.

I created a duplicate of the picture, and in this I duplicated the Background Layer and turned off the visibility of the Background. I then removed the Bara from her background in the Copy Layer. This was the source of the rest of the image.

I then went back to my original picture and tripled the width of the Canvas (I did this because I’m lazy and only have to change one dimension in my new picture this way). This I filled with white.

Back to my copy of Bara I went to the Channels Palette and Selected the Green Channel. I Copied this and Pasted it into the Green Channel of my new wide image and dragged it into position. I followed the same procedure with the Blue Channel though if I were to do it again I think I would use the Green Channel and Paste that into the Blue Channel as it has more detail. This gave me an image with a single coloured image of Bara at each end and a clear area in the middle.

I then went back to my other copy and dragged the Bara Layer over to my new composition. I Duplicated and Flipped this so that I had a mirror image. I used a mask with a B/W Gradient to merge the two Layers together, and when I was happy with the arrangement I merged down to create a single Layer.

This was Duplicated and I applied the Stylize>Tiles filter to it. I partially Erased this and deleted the Black border between the tiles.

From here I applied a number of Layer Styles: Drop Shadow, Emboss, Gradient Overlay as well as Blend If.
As you probably gathered by now I like my filters so I also added a bit of Noise. As a final step I created a Hue/Saturation Layer and partially Desaturated the layer (About 69%).

Hope this all makes sense to you.

Regards

Con
