Thanks, Con. Yes, it makes sense It has been busy around here, too. About this point, I'm getting ready to be done with Christmas!

Not for the faint of heart.

Did some more research on my first submission concerning simulating mosaics and found out the author actually had a program that he developed. Not for the faint of heart, but below are links that will help you to make the attached mosaic (still playing, so not that good).

http://www.cs.unh.edu/~ah/publicatio...ware/tiles.exe

http://www.cs.unh.edu/~ah/publications/sg01/software/

http://www.cs.unc.edu/~geom/voronoi/

Again, I use to be pretty sharp (now I'm a flunky), and I did have a few issues to resolve to get the program to work (downloaded dll's, created batch files, etc.), so, again, this is not for the faint of heart. If anyone is up to a challenge, this is do-able; probably could be done even better.

Grid plugin from Richard Rosenman

Risking overkill on this one, here's yet another approach. It utilizes a free grid plugin available at http://www.RichardRosenman.com.

Here are a couple of posts from a DPReview thread where the gory details are provided:

This is like eating potato chips; you can't stop with just one (or 2, or 3.....). I used the DreamSuite mosaic plugin. I'm interested in using it to make the cracked painting effect that the software shows on its advertising, but I've got a lot of playing to do to get there. Anyway, here's my latest mosaic attempt.

I know what you mean. Maybe we need some dip?

I really like the butterfly mask effect, Cat. Nicely done. For free, that's a pretty nifty plugin.

Well, I have finally found some time to try this challenge. I used Dream Suite and Xenofx and later I am going to try Painter's mosaic.

This may be more like a stitched quilt than a mosiac. But anyway, here 'tis.

Cool way of using Impressionist to create tiled mosaics.

I submitted this entry here using the custom style I developed for Impressionist,

Much better results than using the Voronai method. Man, I will never master Impressionist 100%.

Of course I enhanced the saturation/colors afterwards for the attached image below.

The custom styles can be found in post #28 of this thread:
