Painting From Scanned Newspaper Photo

This haunting image of a young girl, who is a Pakistani earthquake survivor, appeared in the newspaper two weeks ago. I scanned the image but was not pleased with the results but was able to do enough correcting in PS to proceed to "Deep Paint" where I created this painting.

I emailed the painting to the photographer; Tomas Munita of Associated Press, and asked permission to post the painting. To my surprise he emailed back, complimented my work and gave me permission to post the painting. He also asked for the tif file so he could make a print.

I'm not surprised the photographer wanted a copy, you've done a beautiful job. Hard to believe this was from a newspaper photo.

Terrific job! You ought to do a tutorial on using Deep Paint. It seems to be a plugin that befuddles many, including me.

I just recently acquired Deep Paint. The painting of the Pakistani girl was only my third attempt. I run Deep Paint as a stand-alone program rather than try direct interface with PS. I kept getting "image is wrong color mode" messages when I tried to shuttle images back and forth. I've read through the Help file and need to do so again now that I have some experience. The program difinitely has unlimited settings.

I uploaded several screen shots to go with the tutorial. Now if someone can just tell me how to make them appear in the tutorial...Help!
