Hi Verywierd,

Your ship is flying the white ensign (flag of the Royal Navy), is this a ruse to lure unsuspecting souls into a Pirate trap ?

The ship is actually a model of the Golden Hind. As a Privateer all who sailed on her were both representatives of the Crown as well as pirates (to the Spanish)

Rough charcoal sketch.

Not really happy, but I need to figure out the sketch. I'll keep playing until I can simulate it. In the meantime, here's what I've come up with.

Carravaggio assisted illustration.

Used Xero's Carravaggio filter along with some additional enhancements (including Impressionist with KentC's Cezanne filte modified for size) to get this illustration.

Wonderful shot, Janet. When I saw the first one, I immediately knew what I was going to do:

- Cut him out of the background, and turned him into a sketch.
- Created a "pirate map" background. I started with a great action called "Ray's Parchment 2006", which is available at Adobe's Studio Exchange:

After running the action, I ran another great action, "Parahamsa Linen":

Then I used lots of grunge/stain type brushes to add some dirt and age. You can find tons of these brushes online or at Studio Exchange.

I also added a 1626 map of Bermuda and a few nautical/antique designs. All of these were used at varying opacities and blend modes. Finally, I brushed the edge with grunge brushes to give an uneven/burned/torn/aged look.

To finish I placed the pirate on top of the map, put in a drop shadow and tweaked all the colors. Now if only I can learn how to retouch as fast as I've written this description! ; )

Thank you for letting us play!
