Very nice pictures. The taxi is my favorite as well.
Originally tried to repeat Barbar's Gimp watercolor work with Photoshop - selected parts of the image image and blurred them. Didn't quite work (well, I can alwas blame the sofware). Added few IMP and PS paint effects layers.

Second attempt using foto from the link.

The first post - re-touched photo, second - a few IMP effects (Chunky strokes, pontillist, smudged paint) appled to the first.

The retouched photo is great...can i ask you what program you used and if it was curves, levels or whatever???

Impressionist worked well on the second one...I really like it!

Patricia, thank you again for the wonderful pictures.
The re-touching was done in Photoshop SC2
To the best of my recollection I did the following.

1. Re-formatted the picture to 10x8 (cropped sides, used clone stamp to fill the area on the top).
2. Used "Shadow/Highlights" filter to lighten the shadows
3. Increased saturation for red, yellow and green colors (Hue/saturation layer)
4. Used clone stamp to remove a man from the picture
5. Curves layer to increase contrast
6. Selected horse, used another curves layer to further lighten the horse
7. Used "select color" tool to select greens, horse and dark parts of the carriage, run UM sharpening on selection, deleted unselected areas, reduced opacity for the layer to 50%
8. Repeated step 7 with white/cyan/light grey colors
9. Merged everything, Used Nick "remove color cast" filter to reduce cyan by 10%
10 Used Nick soft focus filter at ~20%

I included snapshots of Layers palette.

Hallo Pavel,
the Gimp filter "Selective Gaussian Blur" works as filter selectively according to setted
parameters. So it is a kind of "smart blur" - blurs, when difference between pixels is smaller
than ...
Try this way
btw. your rendering is really very nice

Barbara,

Thank you for the advice. I do hope you did not get me wrong. I was actually trying to make a joke, meaning to say that an artistic (human) component is more essential then the software. In your images, I think, the preliminary work ( painting/smudging) is at least as important as blurring (?). I usually go for "quick and dirty" approach & then something does not look right, just add another layer, use another filter...

I will try to take a closer look at more advanced blur options.

Pavel

Thank you Patricia for the rare and higher resolution images to work with, makes all the difference in our results! Loved the way yours turned out

lkroll - I loved your first effort, small or not. How did you simplify it and your second one, which is excellent. Loved everything about it.

PhotoVagrant - I much prefer No. 2, a terrific effort

pavel - WC's are hard to achieve no matter the program it seems, great efforts.

kiska - it's always fun to watch your SA work and this is no exception, I like the added touch of aniso.

I didn't know what I'd end up with here. Started with Lucis, then some Buzz and finished with Impressionist colour sketch.

Hello Pauline,

Glad you liked the photos...its nice to share them with you all....
Have been asked a few times for a higher res photo do you know if its okay to link to an outside web site??? If it is then i can always link to my albums....

Love what you have done with the photos...The first one is like a pencil drawing and the second one is my favorite...the details really stand out...
The first is a little church in this mountain village, hundreds of years old but still in use....beautiful inside...i will put a photo in my album tomorrow...

Hi Patricia,

Many thanks for commenting on my efforts! I'd imagine it is okay to link to your high res photos however Danny would be the best person to confirm it. Is he away at the moment? I'm enjoying dabbling in Photo Art again, it's relaxing and fun. The Morgue File website is great for getting high res photos to work on too. When I used Lucis Art on the 2nd photo I could see the pews inside the church, fascinating place! Lucis Art is an excellent program for bringing life into photos and I don't regret spending the money. I've no affiliation with Lucis BTW

Have a good day everyone!

Thanks Patricia, had a peek at the "golden" pews and lovely flowers

What an interesting program Art Trace is, so handy - I like the whole idea of it, does anyone else at RP use it?
