Palms Liked this Photo

Palm suggested I post this photo for folks to play with.

Her name is Kaycee, but we call her "Tude" because she really has an attitude! She's the pup that broke my shoulder last month.

She did a fantastic smudge version which I will upload as post 2 to this thread.

Johnnie B, Thank you, she is kinda cute. LOL (no bias here..grin)

She wanted to chase the ducks in the lake and she took off with my hand tangled up in her leash. She pulled me down, broke my left shoulder. "Shame on you, Kaycee! You broke mama!) LOL

I too bow to Palms, master of the smudge. I hope to learn the technique some day...time... all I need is time.

That is funny :-)

... and here I'm thinking: I must be the only one that has had an arm twisted by a Saint Bernard

I did a smudge, but not as good as Palms. I then added texture and painted that back in with the art history brush (used a dry brush).

Patricia Kay...

Thank you. I'm discovering that, done well, smudging can be very time consuming and addictive!

Hey, Craig... Punk cut would look good on her. Go for it. LOL

Aw shucks you guys you are making me blush I think animals are my favorite thing to smudge it is what drew me to it first of all

Swampy you done great thanks for posting this want to have a go at something different on Tude later. Hope your arm is aching after doing your post

On smudging there is a tip at nikon cafe that i have found very helpful (think it is ps only ) before you smudge open a new layer and tick the box at the top use all layers and smudge on this you can turn the background on and of and see where you have "missed" etc

Also i have found some more brushes that are lookin interesting

http://www.3dmenagerie.com/goodies/bag/brushes.htm

especialy the furry ones ( and yes it says they are for psp as well ! )

Craig that looks lovely and warm

do i get any sympathy for a blister on my hand from all the smudging ?

Palms

ps Steve if you read this are you going to do the wool look thing ? just wondering what it would look like on a animal

Thanks for the brushes link, Palms. They look very helpful

I like it Craig. You've made her look very docile! Nice minimalist technique.

Steve, ROFL!!! You know my dog very well. I've grabed the "Tude" version to email my SO. He'll crack up! He's the one that brought her home as a puppy and thought she'd make a great 64th birthday present. Your smudged version is lovely. I like the broad strokes.

Hi Swampy, my wife was looking over my shoulder when I did the "Tude" version and she wanted to know how I could do that to such a sweet looking dog.

Had to show her the second one to make up for it.

Oops! Didn't know this was a birthday present from your SO. I may be in big trouble here.

Steve

No problem, Steve. She does become "devil dog" when she takes a notion. I always thought yellow labs were mellow and laid back. I'm hoping it's just her age (18 months) and that she will soon become a "slug" as she grows older. LOL

I emailed my SO your devil dog version and he jumped on instant messanging and said he had tears in his eyes from laughing so hard!

Love the burned edge effect and the Lucas, PK. Fits so well with the photo.

Steve.. Re the Carlton Ranch. I don't know fer sure, but I think it has been sold since both Mr. & Mrs Carlton have passed on. Old man Carlton served so well for so many years as State Ag Commissioner and my dad worked with him on several sub committees one of which was the screw worm eradication program back in the late 50's - early 60's out of the Sebring airport location. They traveled on Agricultural missions to foreign countries serveral times and hunted both his ranch and ours for years. A great loss to the state of Florida and the Wauchula community. (Another great Wauchulan is Tom McEwen - Tampa Trib Sports editor for many years).

No I am strictly a computer-art person. My brother who teaches Art History at the local community college is the palette and brush artist in the family.

Thanks much.

Pavel, Very nice. What software do you use? The texture is great! Would love for you to share some of your techniques for achieving that look.

Actually, that was my second attempt to use Painter IX, mostly following the tutorial from "Designer today".
Texture and frame were applied in PS CS2.
