Somehow I missed this first time round. Well I've found it now.
Palms the Bee has survived here (just), and the finger stays also.

After more nosing around I've discovered that "She's My Sunflower" was written by Mack David in 1948. It was recorded by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin amongst others and was apparently a very big hit. Full lyrics of these two versions can be seen at www,lyricsfreak.com. According to this site, Martin's third stanza began "I was fair in Kansas, clouds are rare in Kansas". Martin may have been fooling around but I'm fairly sure that he sang "Skies are fair in Kansas etc".

More trivia. Mack David's publishers successfully sued Jerry Herman for "borrowing" the first few notes of "She's My Sunflower" for the opening bars of "Hello Dolly" in 1966.
