A Little Bit of NZ

Some photos taken a few weeks ago on a morning's walk into the bush, then along a black sand beach called Bethel's Beach. The beach features huge sand dunes which are regularly used for All BLack's training. Not an All BLack in sight though the morning I went there.

Hope you enjoy and can find something to inspire the artist in you

Lovely pictures, my favorite was the one in the middle. Had a bit of fun with it (tried all sorts of things on it and hit upon my attached - if only I had written down all that I did so I could recreate effect on other photos, d'oh). Didn't do anything "painterly" so I hope its ok.

Thank you for sharing.

Gorgeous interpretations!

The bush area is indeed very tranquil, cool and calming with only the sounds of water and birds. I love the serenity and mysticism portrayed Kerry

Craig, the All BLacks are New Zealand's Rugby team. They run up and down the sand dunes to develop fitness and strength in the thighs.

lkroll, stunning colours and heaps of energy in the painting. The fluffy 'things' are 'toitoi' or sometimes known as Prince of Wales' Feathers though I think there is some technical difference between the two species. I'm not sure, but I have a fascination for them especially against blue skies.

Thank you

Beautiful photo's Leanan'si hope to see more of your country in the future

Kerry i agree does look very tranquil

Very nice Ikroll the grass looks very feathery

Leanan'si the grass looks like what we call Pampass Grass here ( we grow it as ornamental grass here ) and it does look "pompous" (funny ikroll)

Also i think in the interests of artistic licence get down that beach and stake it out and get us some beefcake photo's of the all blacks

Pompous grass alias pampass grass alias Prince of Whales feathers (I do agree, this sounds a bit strange anatomically). Interesting...

Your painting is looking great to me... Love the nickname. I think I saw some of that grass around here. Now I know how to call it.

Patricia... I like your renderings, "Entrance to the bush" is my favorite.

Pavel

P.S. Another try with "Pompous grass"

Blown away ..

totally by what you have all been able to do with these photos. Thrilled and humbled by the talent here.

I've heard of pampass grass but never realised that the feathers were part of it. I always had the impression of just the flaxy bushy base. I think I shall never seen these again without Pompous Grass coming to mind

All renditions of the cascade creek have caught the primeval richness, depth and mystery of the place. It *feels* like that when you are there.

The pompass grass are all fun and vibrant, and the entrance have caught the element of the unknown beyong the bridge. I love them all, but Patriciakay, I wish I could have your painting of the entrance on my study wall.

Cassidy, thank you for your compliment about the photos. I'm blushing a little here.

I think if I ever get to the dunes while the All Blacks are in training, the exercise would become one of damage control of camera shake! Apart from which, they're usually dragged out there at something like 6am in the morning.

Thank you

leanan (dropping the `si)

Thanks all for the kind comments, it was fun to do.

lkroll: Love the detail on those feathery things, they look so soft.

palms1: My favorite is your first one, it looks like an illustration for an Indiana Jones book (though I am mad at you because the theme song from the movie is now stuck in my head).

kiska: Lovely job, I would love to get this blown up and hung on my wall.

Pavel123: Love the punched up color of your first one. Shame the sky can't always be that blue.

PatriciaK: I adore your third image, the crop is great and the sky looks like a subtle aurora borealis.

Steve: Very nicely done, I keep looking at it to figure out how you did it.

Kerry

Just a thank you to all who were nice enough to say they like my rendition of the stream in the forest, (or bush ).

It is a combination of Gertrudis Pro and Lucis with a bit of color enrichment thrown in.

Thanks.

Heya aceman!

I have to agree with you .. but don't these artists rock!

I'm simply too scared, embarassed, shy, ummm .. to put anything up. The competition is just *too* tough!

Janet, I always love seeing other folks' photos. It was a pleasure to be able to show just a little bit of where I live.

*peers at aceman* Any clues as to whereabouts in NZ you are?

Janet,

the trypthingamejig approach works so well there. It certainly demonstrates that a simple photo can be the start of some amazing results given talent and knowledge.
