Oil on canvas.

Bumped the saturation, used Danny's djroil24 with reduced brush size, then applied my variable thickness technique and canvas technique to finish it off. Here's the full rendering; attached is a crop (same quality level).

Re: Fall Colors

Alan, great shots! Thanks for the play

I pulled up Painter! But I think I found a technique I can work with. Since most of my lame attempts in Painter turn out to be nothing but a smeary mess, I said, "What the heck. Smear it up big time!". So I used the Oily blender brush and just smooshed color around. Saved the Painter file as a PSD and brought that into Photoshop.

I then placed a copy of the original photo on top of the smeary Painter layer and desaturated the copy. I played with the Blending options, Blend mode and HSL adjustment until I got something I liked that brought a little of the original's detail back into the smeared colors.

Added frames and some canvas texture to the painting.

Jackson Lake

Well the original is so nice I hate to mess with it, but mess I did. I used Studio Artist and various blending modes.

Re: Fall Colors

Phil, "On the Rocks" is cool. It looks like a glacier!

I didn't like so much muddy looking shoreline so cloned in more bushes.

Also made a selection of the mountains, put them on their own layer and ran an emboss filter just to bring up some of the craginess.

My goal was to shif the colors to sunset/sunrise. Used part of a photo with the requisite orange colors over a merged copy of the original and set this layer to Linear Burn with opacity set at 86%. Then masked out the trees and shoreline with a soft 60% black brush to reduce the effect of the orange tones. A curves AJ for contrast.

Re: Fall Colors

Hi all, great photo's Alan. How come everyone on this forum lives in a "nicer " place than me?
Nice jobs from all, I'll see if I can mess it up now . This is a little "artsy" for me but I enjoyed doing it, Painter artists oils all impasto brushes.
John
OOOOOOOO! Swampy, that's nice.

Very nice. I like the balance your bushes brought out to the background mountains and coloring.

Re: Fall Colors

Thanks for the kind words but I can't take all the credit for the photos. I only took the pictures, mother nature did all the real work.

Great job eaverybody

pavel123, loved the watercolor and the fall reflection was good too.

Ikroll, great job. the full rendering was twice as good as the cropped and the other was soooo cooooooool.

Ziaphra, very nice.

kiska, love the oil.

palms1, nice work, you turned the dirt road photo into an explosion of color...it's great.

philbach, I'm glad you did mess with it. I like the way your sketchy lines define the shoreline and the mountains.

Swampy, what can I say? As always great work. The sunrise/sunset one was partuclarly interesting to me. (That photo was actually taken while I was waiting on the sunset - about an hour before it happened) The orange tones add a sureal quality to the scene.

Britsdad, Your use of thick brushstrokes eliminates much of the detail in the photo and leaves me contemplating the important stuff...color, I also agree with philbach that you gave the image a greater feel of balance. Nice work.

Re: Fall Colors

Hi Alan...Lovely photos...Best part of Autumn is the great color scheme...dont like the naked look after though!

Pavel...Great watercolor...lovely bright colors...your 2nd one is also good..looks like its been raining...nice one..Looks like an underwater one on your 3rd one...
Lyle...Nice oils and I like the canvas..Your second one is good too, like an ice picture of the frozen North!
Ziaphra...Lovely details and colors...
Kiska...Great oil brush strokes....like it lots..
Palms...All 3 are good but i like the 2nd one best...like the details and vibrant color palette...
Swampy...Like both but 1st is my fave...good idea to do a muck up in Painter and take it back to Photoshop...it worked really well..
Phil....Yours is a really good sketchy effect...
John...Love your modern art...Yorkshire has some fantastic scenery...take your camera and have a day in the Dales...I love it and miss it!
I have done all three...The canyon i did with Lucis Art..The mountain one i did with a Lucis look alike action...The third one i did in Photoshop CS2 with the watercolor AHB and framed with an action...
