Another interesting face

I found another interesting person, who graciously signed the model release allowing us to paint his most interesting face. Enjoy!

From my "some will think it interesting and some will be upset" file comes this interpretation.

Re: Another interesting face

Thanks, Janet, for the "interesting" photo. Fella looks like he knows something he ain't tellin'.

Steve, I like your interpretations. Well, OK, heh heh, the first one takes some getting used to.

Did this one in Artweaver, as usual, with textures added in CS2 (most of which got wiped out by the compression).

Yeah, and it took 5 pictures before I could get him to look up without moving his whole head in the process.

Peter - interesting, more than a little creepy, and very well done. Sort of a picture-of-Dorian-Gray thing going there. Nice.

Re: Another interesting face

a bit of dodge and burn, some rather odd inversions and blend modes (including exclusion, which i rarely use), some masks, eraser, fill mode and more eraser.

great face. and since folks mentioned his face being somewhat familiar, i couldnt help but notice while doing some of these odd inversions and blends, that there was a striking resemblance to mel gibson...under certain conditions.

I think Professor Craig, you nailed the reason for that "deja vu" feeling.

Tried a "low key" image.

I like the light touch. Looks like a combination of pencil sketch and charcoal smoothed with the fingers. Nice.

Great photo Janet...Thanks!

You have all done interesting and imaginative pictures...they are brilliant! I love the sketches...

I have tried a water color smudge...Mainly done in Photoshop CS2 and into Painter IX for a bit of blending...and equalize...

Great one Craig. Excellent execution of style. I hadn't noticed but you are right. It must be the nose and the mouth.

I've been playing with his face trying new techniques. The first one is a version of HDR that I've been experimenting with. The second is my take on Trimoon's excellent new tutorial (Robert Mitchum) that he just published.

Fascinating images, Janet -- he can appear "innocent" or "dangerous" and a range of possibilities in between -- everyone's having a great time with their renditions.

I'm trying variations of sketches -- adding aniso diffusions and other filters and masks to vary to taste... I think this is sort of "Elizabethan impish"...

OK; just get me a straight jacket, and ...

Did a cobblestone mosaic this time. Used a little jiggle (Eye Candy) to get the variable stone feel.

Re: Another interesting face

I forgot how much fun this is...

Ocean ripples faded, followed by a whole slew of Impressionist faded
with an Impressionist pencil sketch on top, mostly masked out.

Re: Another interesting face

Glad you liked it, Pavel.

You can find the explanation concerning LucisArt "imitation" on this site: Innograph
I can't remember exactly what other steps I used, but there was for sure a duplicate layer on which I ran Impressionist on Old Master at low opacity and then a bit of cutout (probably 8 0 1) very faded.

I hope these steps will put you on the right track.

Good luck!

Sylvia

Sylvia,
"I like it" is an understatement.
Thank you so much for explanations. I've seen some of your latests posts on Innographx. Being a fairly recent innmate (cellmate? roommate?) there, I apperently missed "Impressionist on Old Master" Impresionist settings as well. Can you possibly point me in the right Impressionist direction?

Best regards,
Pavel

Re: Another interesting face

Cool that you rediscovered this thread Joe. Like your result too. What filters/tools did you use for yours.

Really like your result too Alan. Impressionst? If so, what preset?

Anyway, needed a reprieve for the junk that I posted earlier. I did a few (well a lot) of preprocessing steps before feeding it into my Van Gogh2 Impressionist preset (with some selective erase throughs (i.e., the eyes) and some additional selective color enhancements (skin).

Re: Another interesting face

Just trying to emulate the pencil sketch look that I've seen as a request on both this forum and DPR's site. Not quite there, but had fun.

Re: Another interesting face

Thanks to whomever resurrected this thread. The old plays are a nice review and a trip down memory lane. The new plays are lots of fun to watch as more exciting techniques are used and shared. Thumbs up all.
