Re: Fall colors, Parry

Patricia, Wonderful solarization! As Pavel said, you captured the feel so well. I found the dead trees depressing and kind of eerie and couldn't get "into" working on them, but you've reset the mood with that one.

And yes, Painter is deep and wide. I think a lot of my "problem" has been achieving an eye for what looks right. I exist in the photo realism world so much (hey, it pays the bills), that it sometimes gets hard to "let it all go"

Awesome photos. Perfect candidates for the inked watercolor technique I've been working on.

Used Colorspace replacement to saturate the colors.

Check this tutorial link. Did a few other things of course.

You did? All I can recall is some very useful feedback for a colorization project I was working on when I first came to RP.

I'm loving this technique too. Watercoloring is probably my favorite painting style.

I've done these in PhotoImpact of course, so I don't know how/if it'll translate into PSP or PS, but here's the basics.

4 duplicate layers of the original.

On the bottom layer, I use Cat's Fav 'Watercolor soft and loose' impressionist set, but reset the brush size to about 50%. I may reduce this layer's transparency a bit to retrieve some detail.

The next layer is a hefty Gaussian blur, 10-20% radius depending on the image size. Transparency to 50% or more. This effectively 'washes' the underlying impressionist treatment colors.

The third layer is PI's colored pen filter set to max, totally desaturated, then crunched to suit with levels for the inked lines. Blend set to 'if darker'.

Top layer is simply set to Hue & Saturation blend mode to reintroduce some of the original distinct colors.

Generally I then top it off with a 50% grey overlay layer, texturized for the paper surface with greatly reduced transparency.

I'd love to hear if someone can imitate this in PSP or PS.
