TM Artistic Endeavors Tutorial

This is a new tutorial based on a rendering I do of Robert Mitchum a couple of weeks ago. I posted a PDF file on my blog, this is just temporary until I find a better home for it. The name of the tutorial is TM Artistic Endeavors Tomorrow I will be posting a HTML version and later in the week there will be a video available I hope, I've already made the video, just having trouble finding a place to host it. I did a limited release earlier today of the video as a test and it crashed my server.

Steve

Thank you Danny for your help.

Re: TM Artistic Endeavors Tutorial

Steve,

Thank you so much for sharing your methods and techniques. Not sure I will be able to repeat, but I will definitely give it a try.

You posted a rendition "homeless men" at dpreview a week or so ago, chalk and charcoal imitation with brief description of your workflow and a note that tutorial would be forthcoming. Is that the tutorial you were referring to?

Thank you again.

Pavel

Re: TM Artistic Endeavors Tutorial

Thanks for the tutorial!
I have a question... At the step 13, you said that must apply the impressionist on layer four but at the impressionist>charcoal (image capture), layer three appears!
Am I in the wrong direction?
Best wishes,
Dan

Dan
The image that you see in the preview is not important. However, I can see where that would confuse. So I've fixed it. In the image I was basically trying to convey the settings and the overall feel for the Impressionist control panel.

Thank you all and I hope you enjoy.

A shot at Robert Mitchum based on Steve's tutorial, which is exceptionally well written.

Re: TM Artistic Endeavors Tutorial

Hi Steve,
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial with us!
I've been trying to reproduce your effect but I'm having a problem at Step 16. If I erase the background of layer 5, all I get is white, since the layer right under that one is pure white. I'm not getting any charcoal at all.
Any suggestion where I'm going wrong?
Thanks again,
Sylvia

Sylvia

In step 16. It says to adjust the opacity down to 30% did you do this?

Thank you all

I'm glad everyone's enjoying. I was supposed to have the video ready today, but my neighbors are building a house, they cut my Internet access yesterday. I just got back. I was having some terrible withdrawal.

Danny
I like your version, very well done.

I'd like to see some different images. Using this technique. Today I did a still life, and I think it came out pretty good.

Re: TM Artistic Endeavors Tutorial

Oops, Steve, I was on background eraser rather than on eraser, that's why it wasn't working properly. I did your tutorial though and adapted it a bit.
Thanks again, Steve.

Re: TM Artistic Endeavors Tutorial

I finally got around to trying this new technique. As always, Steve's tutorials are well written and easy to follow. I quite liked the result I got when I expanded it a bit (after erasing too much to begin with). I posted the picture in the "interesting face" thread.
