Peace...

Rose for your painting/enhancement enjoyment.

We had been shooting indoors all day because it was raining. As soon at the sun peeked out, it hit the roses. This was shot at ISO400 at a 1000th of a second and F16. Usually I shoot flowers at F4 or lower. This was an oops. I think it turned out ok.

I'll be interested to see what everyone comes up with.

Merry Christmas. Enjoy.

Janet

Melting Ice sculpture.

Well I tried anyway. Had a lot of help with Panos Rainy Day action (free by the way).

Re: Peace...

Janet, That's one beautiful rose shot! Sorry I went and messed it all up by smudging it with the liquify filter and adding a find edges. :-)

Merry Christmas, All!

Re: Peace...

Craig, a little of both. As I adjusted the curves, there were some areas that went totally black and some that were just way to distractingly white to leave that way. So I darkened them.

A black background is easy to do if you shoot with an f-stop of f-16-22 and use a flash. I've done that several times. This time, I forgot to change the ISO when I went outside. The flower turned out great, the background was mottled.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for all the the contributions so far. I didn't think it would be such a difficult subject for experimentation and that we would have had a few more posts before now.

Palms, I thought the name was especially appropriate considering that I took the picture in Jerusalem, Israel.

Happy, healthy, safe New Year to everyone.

Re: Peace...

I have been enjoying this thread. Question, why the dark black background?

Why not something greenish?

The original background had very little green in it. After the curves adjustment, there was more dark than light. I just got rid of what little light there was left because it was a distraction. As to the black...I was taught early on by instructors that the black background made the flowers and colors pop. In this case, I agreed. If I knew where the original was (does that say something about my filing system?), I'd post it for comparison.

Janet

Oh, and P.S. With the background the way it is, I expected to have some intrepid souls extract the flower and do funky things with it.

Well you wanted something done with the background!!!!!!

I went a little wacky with the rest - I got a new toy to play with.

Re: Peace...

I can't leave this rose alone. Here is my second interpretation. Posterize, AHB, Smudge, Impressionist (and masking), more Smudge, Sharpen, Texture. Enjoy.

Re: Peace...

Janet,

I really like you impressionist rose. It is amazing how art like you have made it.

I was wondering what image prcessing program you were using to get "Impressionist". I don't know what AHB is.
